WTF?? NY Post Calls OBAMA A MONKEY!!

New York Post Cartoonist, Sean Delonis, drew a controversial picture with a horrendous caption and his editor ran it thru the press. I try to be as neutral as possible on political issues. Most tend to be in that shady grey area; but this is Black & White in every sense of the term. While I understand most political cartoons are racy, I have never seen one as blatantly racist as this. They Reverand Al Sharpton has already started organizing a protest of the paper and had this to say, "The cartoon in today's New York Post is troubling at best given the historic racist attacks of African-Americans as being synonymous with monkeys. One has to question whether the cartoonist is making a less than casual reference to this when in the cartoon they have police saying after shooting a chimpanzee that "Now they will have to find someone else to write the stimulus bill."
"Being that the stimulus bill has been the first legislative victory of President Barack Obama (the first African American president) and has become synonymous with him it is not a reach to wonder are they inferring that a monkey wrote the last bill?
"

In Response the NY Post released this statement,"The cartoon is a clear parody of a current news event, to wit the shooting of a violent chimpanzee in Connecticut. It broadly mocks Washington's efforts to revive the economy. Again, Al Sharpton reveals himself as nothing more than a publicity opportunist."

*sniff*sniff* I can smell that BULLSHIT from Michigan. Don't try to pull the wool over our eyes, when america sees monkeys and two white cops shooting it with a caption that refers to a bill that many believe the President wrote himself, WTF do you think mainstream America is going to think of? Certainly not Nancy Pelosi or Barney Frank. So isn't ther a possibility that it could have been construed in another way than which your representatives are stating? I'm all for freedom of speech, the man has a right to make his doodles but take some responsibility for your actions. The cartoon's caption was tasteless. I'm not even looking for an apology just admit your cartoon MAY have implied that our Black President is a monkey.

I agree completely. To use the excuse that this is referring to the current news event of shooting a violent chimpanzee is laughable. The cartoonist has a complete lack of subtlety; obviously not such a great cartoonist if he can't even express his political views in a clever and not blatantly racist fashion. To think that people in America are moving backwards in terms of prejudice instead of forwards is upsetting indeed.
