Lady Gaga and Flo Rida Rule the Charts

Friday, April 3, 2009

Lady GaGa has become the first artist of the new millennium to top the US charts with her first two singles. Her latest track 'Poker Face' climbed to the top spot after 15 weeks on the chart, adding to her number one hit 'Just Dance' in 2008. The last act in America to accomplish the feat of two debut number ones was Christina Aguilera with 'Genie In A Bottle' and 'What A Girl Wants' in 1999. Meanwhile, Lady GaGa – real name Stefani Germanotta – performed a show-stealing rendition of 'Poker Face' on American Idol on April 1.

After Flo Rida's debut smash hit "Low" featuring T-Pain stood atop the charts last year, many thought duplicating the same success would be an unlikely task for the rapid-fire styled rapper.
But the hits kept coming for the six-foot-three artist, who is a Florida native. He has held down the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart for the past five weeks with his first single "Right Round" featuring Kesha. The high-energy dance single has also sold almost two million in digital sales.
Even his second single, "Sugar" with Wynter Gordon is currently climbing the charts.
Now with his second disc "R.O.O.T.S.," out this week, Flo Rida hopes his pre-album release momentum can result into more commercial appeal.

Joaquin Phoenix...Golden Globe to Grammy??

Monday, February 23, 2009

In a less than auspicious debut, Joaquin Phoenix, who recently announced that he was retiring from acting to focus full time on music, made his debut performance earlier this month with what was described as three barely comprehensible raps that he concluded by falling off the stage.
How did the audience respond?

There was a mixture of people clapping," said Mike Snedegar, the head of entertainment marketing at Lavo, the Las Vegas nightclub where Phoenix performed Jan. 9, "and some with weird looks on their faces like, 'What is going on?'"
It's a question entertainment industry watchers have been asking themselves since Phoenix made the surprise announcement in October that he was ditching the acting business for a career in music. Dueces!\-D Dibbs

Young Scolla of USR brings the heat on his latest mixtape. This is NOT another Hood Tracks Anthem as so many Detroit Artists put out on mixtapes. Young Scolla has put thought and effort into each one of his songs. The difference between this mixtape and other artists I have heard is the depth and variety. Original beats, guest appearances and quality vocals make it seem more like an album; a finished product rather than an attempt to hustle by making a couple tracks in someone's basement. The project has more ups than downs. Tracks including, Dont You Know; Like Me and Dreams to Reality are radio ready hits and Infatuation ft.K-Bunz is byfar my favorite thanks to a familiar sample. Scolla braves the waters of singing WITHOUT Autotune. That alone deserves its own praise, but this isnt about my vendetta against the machine. Bottom line is this is a good album and I like it. The track by track rundown puts this piece of work above average. Job Well Done Sir Scolla.

I got Dibbs on my copy. Get yours!!

My Qualifications/Upcoming Artists

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Well, since this is a music blog and i am an expert, i should explain my credentials. Afterall if i want my opinion to be valued I should have some credibility and expertise in my field.

First off, Welcome to my blog, and thank you for visiting. I'd like to state that i have been a lover of music all my life. Before i could speak I would hum songs from the radio. My mother told me storys of how I would analyze a songs lyrics and explain my interpretations to her then make suggetions of how they could be better; all this before my 4th birthday. My uncle was a Motown singer. He had a few hits locally, his brother; my other uncle was an underground rapper. My cousin is a Gospel singer, my aunt was in a nationally acclaimed varsity chorus in High School and I have quite a few friends in the music industry who value my opinions.

Now that that is out of the way; artists i feel are on the rise.

First up on this list is a gentleman i have known for many years. He has earned my respect as an artist for his fresh approach to rap music. His style is unique and his flow is smooth as butter. Young Scolla of USR/BSE, his own record label, can be heard on the radio, in clubs, and on quite a few ipods. He is a rapper originally from Memphis but claims the Detroit Hip-Hop uprising. And i will not be the only one to say, We are glad to have you Sir Scolla.
Next up, some really nice guys from Inkster, MI. Singing sensations, The Twins, recieved national attention for making it to "Hell Week" on American Idol Season 5. With the release of an upcoming album they should more than surpass their efforts to stardom. Delay is a soultry R&B voice with introverted delivery in his lyrics the other half of the duo, J-Rock is a smooth pop crooner, that loves to dance and keep you entertained. This combination only spells out one thing for the ladies Sexy and Cool.

And what kida promoter would i be if I didnt ring my own bell. The Civil Lycist,CEO Label Liason Yung Savage and SENT Records presents D Dibbs™. Dibbs has been filling books and books with ideas and songs for about a year and its time for him to shine. His album is scheduled to release in 2010 and he'd like to keep all the tracks a surprise but one has already been leaked onto Myspace. Teaming with fellow SENT artist Collin Collab, "She Eyin Me" was posted to the site. Check out all of my reccommendations I know you'll love 'em.
Dibbs on the first copies!! get your own..lol. Dueces

I have to say I am happy with my group and the direction we're headed in. Music is excellent, quality is great, Studio time is productive and we're on our way. We are currently working on an urban recorded album entitled iDCK, uDOWN with a talented engineer by the name of Darryl Oliver. Mr. Oliver is an underground producer, vocalist, and sound engineer who's credits include the success of Detroit based group 7 mile and R&B singers Lil G (Speed of sound) and Curtis Crowell(Tenderlove). We know that through Oliver's music prestige and direction combined with our flawless talent we can not only be successful, but be the succesors in Hip-Hop and make an impact on the music industry. Determination is key and as big as iDCK is we have the gumption not to be deterred
